Julen Lopetegui’s plan to drop big Summer signing could be disastrous.

After conceding an awful amount of goals under David Moyes last season, the big thing fans wanted to see improve under Julen Lopetegui was the defence.

Unfortunately, things didn’t improve much under the Spaniard at first, but two consecutive clean sheets suggests that things may be looking up.

However, despite this, a report from Claret and Hugh has claimed that the gaffer could be about to switch things up with Mavropanos coming in for Todibo due to him picking up a knock, and in order to cope with Arsenal’s dominance in the air.

While it wasn’t the immediate impact many would have hoped for, the Frenchman has settled in rather well to life in the Premier League, although he is clearly still adapting.

Considering their improved defensive record, it seems foolish to change the back line of Emerson, Kilman, Todibo, and Wan-Bissaka. With that being said, Mavropanos’ performance at the Emirates last season is evidence that this could work out. The Greek international should fend much better with Fabianski in goal, a much more vocal goalkeeper.

Ultimately if Todibo is injured then there can be no arguing over Dinos starting. If it’s purely a tactical decision then it’s one that certainly has merit, but one that could come back to bite. Arsenal have a lot more to offer than just headers and playing someone who consistently has a big mistake in him is a bold strategy.
