West Ham star Mohammed Kudus has been nominated for the Puskas award, but what are his chances of winning it?
Mohammed Kudus’ solo goal against Freiburg may seem like an eternity ago, but it was actually scored in 2024. The Ghanaian picked up the ball in his own half, using equal parts pace and skill to run all the way through to the keeper to put it in the back of the net.
The sensational goal has rightfully been nominated for the Puskas award, but Kudus faces some strong competition.
Some of the other highlights include halfway line chips from Dimarco and Antonis, as well as a rocket volley from Al Haydos, and an acrobatic masterclass from Benzia.
However, there are three that stand above the rest in my opinion. Firstly, you have Garnacho’s bicycle kick against Everton, one of the most cleanly hit bicycle kicks you will ever see. Secondly, there is Walter Bou who set himself up for yet another unbelievable bicycle. Finally, there’s Denis Omedi with a rabona from the right hand side of the box that you really have to see to believe.
If I was to pick a winner, it would be Omedi, it’s an utterly ridiculous goal. In another year, Kudus could have won with his goal but the competition is just too strong this time around. This shouldn’t take away from the fact it’s one of the finest solo goals you will ever see, but it’s just not on the same level as some of the others.
