West Ham’s links with Argentinian striker shows they will never learn their lesson.

When you watch West Ham play, there’s one issue above all else that’s abundantly clear; they desperately need a goal scoring striker. Michail Antonio has been performing well as of late, but he’s not the player he once was and goals are a rarity for him, while Danny Ings hardly gets a look in.

Niclas Fullkrug was brought in during the Summer to try and solve their problems, but he’s spent more time sidelined than he has available.

While they clearly need a striker in the January window, funds are going to be limited and, as a result, they may look at long options to tide them over for the rest of the season.

According to reports, one option that is being considered is Napoli’s Giovanni Simone.

The 29-year-old Argentine has been in Italy since 2017, securing a move to Naples in 2022 after an impressive season for Verona where he contributed to 22 Serie A goals.

While this would suggest he’d be a strong option for our Irons, this isn’t likely to be the case. His goal scoring record over the last 7 years is inconsistent at best, and since moving to Napoli, nearly 2-and-a-half years ago, he’s scored a measly 6 league goals.

Although his work rate is excellent, his lack of composure in front of goal means he’s the sort of player the Hammers should be avoiding. What they need is someone young, hungry, and has a real eye for goal, not another player exiting their prime who has no signs of improving the squad. The club is crying out for a long-term solution to their long-term problem, Simone will not be that.

Why the club continues to persist with signing the same type of striker is beyond any of us, but they desperately need to get out of this bad habit.
