West Ham could be in pole position to sign Evan Ferguson from Brighton this January, as Chelsea reportedly switch their focus to LaLiga bagsman.

Chelsea are reportedly lining up a move for Getafe forward Christantus Uche this winter, with Liam Delap of Ipswich Town also an option for Enzo Maresca’s side.

The Blues have reportedly turned their attentions away from 20-year-old Irish sensation Evan Ferguson, giving the Hammers the chance to pounce on the man that Fabian Hürzeler is said to have made available for loan next month.

The West Londoners, alongside Manchester City and Arsenal are said to be interested in the Irishman, however, they would be interested in a permanent move rather than a loan. After spending upwards of £120m this summer, West Ham are likely to be short of cash this winter, so a loan would make a lot of sense.

However, it would most likely be a move a lot of Hammers fans would oppose. If it was a permanent signing, almost every fan would be happy with it. However, a sixth month loan for a player that has been well out of form over the past year doesn’t really make sense. Also, with his price tag and reputation, if he was to hit the ground running in East London, a permanent switch in the summer would be pretty much impossible.

The Hammers also won’t want to be the reason for helping Brighten, a direct competitor for the European places in the table over the past 3/4 years. Ferguson is a player with bags of potential. so a successful loan could really make him one of the League’s most feared strikers and there is no chance that would be in a Claret and Blue shirt beyond the summer.
