Lukasz Fabianski held no punches when speaking on West Ham’s 5-2 thrashing against Arsenal.

After an immense win against Newcastle, West Ham were brought back down to reality with a horrid display against London rivals Arsenal.

Apart from a five minute spell in which they scored their two goals, the Hammers were simply not in the game. Lukasz Fabianski was far from happy with how his side performed against his old club, but recognises that the opposition were unbelievable. “For all of us, it’s a very disappointing afternoon,” he told the official site.

“It’s actually quite hard to describe the performance. We were up against a good side, who played well, but we definitely feel we could have done better so it is frustrating.”

“We were all aiming to start strongly – our target was to be on the front foot, to press high and be in possession of the ball. But we made some sloppy mistakes, and Arsenal punished us.”

The Polish keeper will take some responsibility for the loss, particularly due to the fifth goal. Not only did he time his punch wrong to give away the penalty, but he also should have really saved it. “He [Gabriel] out jumped me,” the 39-year-old said. “I tried to reach the ball, but he came from the blind side. I was always focused on the ball, but I think he came from a stronger position because I was jumping from standing.”

“It’s a disappointing day, but there is another game in a few days and we will be focused on responding well in Leicester. Hopefully we can come back from there with a result.”

While some argue that he had a right to try and play the ball, so it therefore shouldn’t have been a penalty, the matter of fact is he timed it wrong. The fact that he doesn’t seem to disagree with the fact it was a foul probably says a lot.
