If Graham Potter is really waiting for the West Ham job, he’s waiting for nothing.
After their 2-0 win against Newcastle, many had hoped a performance of that level could have seen West Ham turn a page under Julen Lopetegui. While it was always going to be tough following that up against Arsenal, the way they played would suggest that the game at St James’ Park was a one off.
With the 5-2 thrashing, Lopetegui is under pressure once again to produce convincing wins. If things haven’t improved by January, reports have claimed that he could face the sack,
In the event that this does happen, a whole host of managers have been linked with a move to East London, with Jamie O’Hara stating that Graham Potter is waiting for the job.
While he is an obvious move for the Irons, it’s one that’s unlikely to happen in my opinion. Although this could change, and may have already, the board have previously stated that they’re not fans of the Englishman in the slightest. They believe he overachieved massively at Brighton purely due to their excellent recruitment strategy.
Potter also is still said to be receiving his massive Chelsea paycheck, something he no longer gets if he finds a new job. Financially, it makes more sense for him to stay unemployed until that’s paid up.
With that being said, he’s English, knows the Premier League, has experience working with a director of football, and is available for free – on paper he’s David Sullivan’s ideal man.
