Despite West Ham’s managerial worry at the minute, the club has pushed that matter aside to offer one of its longest-serving current players a new deal, sources tell Football Insider.
The Hammers have opted to keep 32-year-old right-back Vladamir Coufal who has played over 150 times for the East London club. Coufal joined West Ham back in 2020 after his good friend and international teammate Tomas Soucek.
The Czech Republic international has been second choice for large parts of this season, succumbing to new signing and former Manchester United defender Aaron Wan Bissaka who has been preferred as Julen Lopetegui’s starting right back. They have the option to sell Coufal, who is in the last year of his contract at the club.
There is no agreement yet, but talks are underway to secure the future of the premier league veteran. An offer has been put towards Coufal, which the club are hopeful he accepts in a bid to keep the key member of the Hammers dressing room at the club for a while longer.
Under threat head coach Julen Lopetegui is a huge admirer of Coufal’s work and wants to keep him at the club beyond this year.
Although the Hammer has over 150 games for the club and 20 assists, he is yet to score his first goal for the club after nearly five years as part of the first-team squad.
Coufal has never been the highest quality right back the Hammers have ever had, but no West Ham fan can complain about the commitment, effort, and loyalty he has shown to the Premier League club.
The 32-year-old continues to be a constant figure in the national side, whether he is performing for West Ham or not. Coufal has played the full 90 minutes in the last six Nations League matches.
