West Ham are the best in England at something, but it’s hardly a flattering statistic.
For the past couple of years, West Ham have topped the charts for the most football related arrests. Due to a mixture of a large crowd and the club’s history, this is hardly surprising.
However, a new study has found that the Irons are actually at the top over a longer period of time of four years. They’ve managed to accumulate 214 arrests over that time, 30 more than second place Manchester United.
This is obviously something that needs to be stopped. Passion is incredibly important, and the tribalism of football is what makes it so special but it creates a bad image for the club. Not only that, but it can lead to potential punishments as we saw in Europe. You don’t need violence, drugs, or hooliganism to make an intimidating atmosphere nor are they needed to enjoy yourself, so as a collective we need to do better.
