West Ham could make a rare classy decision following Michail Antonio’s car crash.
The football world united on Saturday when news broke that Michail Antonio was in an awful car crash and was currently in hospital. Although it was a concerning time, it was beautiful to see the messages of love and support pouring in for a club legend.
Thankfully, the striker is alive and well, but there are understandably questions over whether he will play football again. At a minimum, he’s expected to be out for a year with his leg fracture, by which point he will be 35-years-old.
However, reports have suggested that the club could activate the 1-year-extension in his contract either way. This would presumably be purely to support him financially.
If this does happen, it would be an absolutely amazing gesture by the club. While it would have a negative impact on the team’s ability to give players big wages, some things are much more important. Micky is a club legend, and he deserves the Hammers’ support in every way possible.
