Former Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal player says signing for West Ham was “the best decision” of his career.

While he may have played his best football at Anfield, Yossi Benayoun was certainly a great player for West Ham. He lacked a bit in goal involvements, but he was a joy to watch.

When playing for three elite clubs, many would consider that to be the pinnacle of their career, but Benayoun says the best decision he ever made was joining the Hammers.

“First I will say, I think it was the best decision of my career,” he explained to West Ham Network. “Really, the best decision because when I played in Spain, you know, with my body – you know I’m not that strong. I don’t have the muscles, it’s mainly bones.”

“Everyone said in Spain that this is my type of football, and I need to stay in Spain. I got a lot of criticism in Israel when I left Spain, and they said I would never be successful in England. And I think the fact that I signed for West Ham – not only in the Premier League, especially West Ham – was the best decision.”

He puts a lot of this down to the people he had around him at the club, particularly then-manager Alan Pardew. “Because with Alan Pardew at the time and the players that were at the club, it was perfect for me to improve my football.”

Benayoun is someone who is remembered fondly by fans of the Irons. He scored some spectacular goals, and was overall a great player – his time in England really is underrated.
