West Ham could agree to a swap deal which would see them part with a big name to bring in an unproven South American starlet.

Looking at the performances this season, it’s hard not to get the impression that some players aren’t giving their absolute all for the club. While for some it would seem it’s their lack of faith in Julen Lopetegui, for others it’s been a more long standing issue.

The downfall of Lucas Paqueta is remarkable. The midfielder was once of the Hammers’ most valuable assets, with an £85 million move to Manchester City previously looking almost certain, but has been underperforming for about a year now.

For me, it’s baffling how he still gets as much game time as he does. When you’ve got a grafter like Summerville on the bench it doesn’t make sense to keep playing Paqueta.

However, reports have claimed that the Brazilian’s time in claret and blue could be coming to an end, with multiple clubs in his home country keen on acquiring his services.

In particular, Botafogo could entertain a swap deal in which West Ham receive Igor Jesus.

Although he’s only 23-years-old, and the player they’d receive in return is playing poorly, it just doesn’t seem like the right signing. The striker has scored a mediocre 5 goals in 22 Serie A games, not the stats you expect from a Brazilian player being linked with a move to the Premier League. Obviously there’s no way of telling for definite but, on paper, it’s a bizarre move.
