Maximillian Kilman is determined to build on the positives gained from the draw with Bournemouth on Monday night, as they face two crucial matches against Brighton and Southampton over the festive period.
The Hammers impressed in parts at the Vitality Stadium on Monday, as well as looking shaky in parts also. However, it was a huge improvement from the previous away game at the King Power Stadium vs Leicester.
Lopetegui’s side edged the match on expected goals despite the 29 shots from the cherries the Hammers defended well in the main, restricting them to a lot of shots from distance. A screamer of a freekick from Enes Unal levelled up the match in the dying minutes after Paqueta gave us the lead with just three minutes to go.
“We’ve worked incredibly hard, but were unfortunate that they finished with a free-kick at the end,” Kilman said.
“We’ve made a lot of improvements. We were very aggressive, fighting for the second balls, and we’ve put in a proper shift out there So, credit to everyone. It’s a tough place to come, but, we’ve managed to match them and are unfortunate not to take all three points.
“There is the frustration that we haven’t got all three points. Of course, conceding in the last minute is always tough. But taking a point away from home, wherever you play, is always going to be tough, and it’s always something you need to take the positives from.”
West Ham now host bogey team Brighton on Saturday, however, recent results have been positive for the Hammers against the seagulls with a win and a draw last season. This is a big couple of games for Lopetegui and West Ham, anything less than three points against Brighton and Southampton could mean Lopetegui sees the door.
“For sure, we’re going to look ahead and we’ve got a home game coming up next, so we need to make sure we put our best performance in again,” Kilman added.
“We’ve always had high belief. Of course, things have not been going so well, but I think there’s a lot of things to look forward to. We’re working really hard and we want want to put in our best performances and hopefully we can keep getting good results.
“There’s so much more to come. We’ve got an incredible squad of players. We just need to keep pushing and I’m sure things will be on the up.”
