A journalist has given his view as to whether West Ham need to make a “fascinating” January move.

West Ham may be undefeated in their last three games, but things haven’t been very pretty. The same issues that we’ve seen since the opening game of the season are still present, and a fair amount of that is to do with their striker situation.

Niclas Fullkrug has been out of the majority of the seasons with an achilles injury, while their other options up top haven’t exactly been prolific in front of goal.

Since the German has been back, he’s not found any sort of form, and journalist Andy Stevenson hinted on the BBC sport Website he wouldn’t be surprised to see the Hammers sign a forward in January. “It will be fascinating to see whether Julen Lopetegui feels he has to dip into the transfer market for another striker in January,”

he stated.

“In the long-term absence of Michail Antonio, Niclas Fullkrug was handed his first Premier League start of the season against Brighton, but he barely got a kick and was substituted after 57 minutes.”

“The man who starred for Germany at Euro 2024, before signing for the Hammers for a reported £27m, may well be short of fitness but he will need to step up quickly if West Ham are to improve their form and move up the table.”

“Jarrod Bowen can play through the middle and Crysencio Summerville probably feels he should be given more starts, but the onus will surely be on Fullkrug to start making an impact soon”.

In my opinion, signing a striker is a must. Fullkrug clearly isn’t capable of playing in the Premier League at this point in his career, and the injury to Antonio has only amplified the desperation. On top of this, the German had made it clear he’s unhappy at the moment, something that is only going to have a negative impact on his form.
