West Ham boss admits that 5-0 defeat to Liverpool was simply not good enough amidst
Despite being four games unbeaten heading into the match, West Ham were due a thrashing. They’d been riding their luck for weeks, and things could only go their way for so long.
Although Liverpool played well, the Irons handed them the win comfortably. However, Julen Lopetegui has put much of this down to the opposition’s quality.
“I think that we played today against one of the best teams, very clearly, in the first half of the season,” Lopetegui said to the official site. “But despite this, I think that it has been a disappointing day for us because we are very disappointed for our fans above all. I think that we can lose this game, but I think that we can do better.”
“We had players out because of different reasons, and it’s true that we had to wait until Sunday morning until we named the line-up, waiting until the last moment to know about the availability of the players. But, despite all these things, I think that we can do better.”
“We have to be honest with ourselves and say that we have to learn many things to be closer in these kinds of matches with these kinds of opponents.”
“I repeat, despite the fact we did well in the last month, today is a bad day for us. It is not an excuse to say that we lost against Liverpool because they are the leaders. I think that it’s one match of football when we played in front of our fans and for sure we can and we have to give them another face.”
Keeping the Spaniard on is a strange decision, he’s already come close to the sack multiple times in his tenure, clearly showing he’s not up to the task. By not sacking him we delay the inevitable.
