Defender Max Kilman is hoping that West Ham will be able to put their embarrassing 5-0 home defeat against Liverpool behind them as quickly as possible.
The Hammers ended 2024 on the wrong end of a thrashing at the hands of Arne Slot’s Liverpool. It’s certainly a game West Ham would have been expected to lose, but losing so heavily, conceding a number of soft goals in the process and looking extremely frail defensively, has only added to the negative mood surrounding the Club at the moment.
Despite performances being less than convincing, Julen Loepetgui’s side were actually on a four game unbeaten run going into the Liverpool game. Kilman, who has been one of the Hammers standout performers since joining from Wolves in the summer, admitted that the 5-0 defeat against league leaders Liverpool was a difficult result to stomach.
West Ham have quite a challenging run of fixtures over the coming weeks. With how Lopetegui’s side are playing at the moment many fans could be forgiven for questioning where the Hammers next points are coming from.
Speaking to West Ham TV after the Liverpool defeat Kilman maintained that he and his teammates are capable of much better performances and need to bounce back quickly from such a damaging defeat.
“It hurts to be honest because losing at home in that kind of manner is unacceptable, and we need to do much better than that. We’ve got to look at ourselves because we’re all much better than that, and we’ve come off a good run of form recently against good sides.” said Kilman.
The £40 million summer signing went on to add: “We have to take today as a blip and make sure we bounce back from that.”
