West Ham legend slams board for not sacking Lopetegui after Liverpool thrashing.
West Ham’s 5-0 defeat to Liverpool may have ended their four game unbeaten streak, but it’s baffling how they managed to not lose any of them. In fact, each one of the matches they were second best, and they could have easily lost each one.
After an absolute demolition from Liverpool, some West Ham fans were hoping they had seen the last of Julen Lopetegui, but this wasn’t the case. It seems like the Spaniard has been given at least the next two games to save his job, but with them being trips to Manchester City and Aston Villa that seems unlikely.
Club legend and fan Tony Cottee was left furious over the decision, and urged the board to reassess. “What are the Board waiting for?” Cottee questioned on X. “The 5-0 drubbing at City and knocked out of the Cup by Villa?!!! Get Graham Potter in now and give him a chance to save the season and work in the Jan window… Yesterday was dreadful and something has to change. Our fans deserve so much better.”
He’s absolutely spot on. There is little point giving him two games which he is likely to lose. The fact that he’s been given a couple of games to save his job on multiple occasions this early on in his tenure says everything really.
