James Ward Prowse, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest, could be set to return to West Ham. This is according to X account West Ham Football who has suggested the 30 year old’s loan spell with the Premier League high flyers may be facing termination.
The tweet posted on New Year’s Eve suggests that Ward Prowse could end up on his way back to East London. The prospect of Ward Prowse returning to the Club is certainly an interesting one as the Hammers have had massive struggles in midfield so far this season.
If Ward Prowse was to have his loan terminated, having seen how much Julen Lopetegui’s side have struggled in the middle of the park, practically week in week out, there will be many supporters out there who will feel that the 30 year old could offer something the Hammers have been missing.
In the midfield department, Guido Rodriguez has struggled to adapt to the Premier League, there has been much speculation he may even leave the club in the January transfer window. Carlos Soler has shown glimpses of his ability, the likes of Lucas Paqueta and Edson Alvarez have both massively struggled for form so far this season.
With 389 Premier League appearances, Ward Prowse is vastly experienced, understands the league, and is used to the demands of playing Premier League football week in week out. His excellent set piece deliveries could be a useful tool and offer this current Hammers side more of a goal scoring threat.
Having had a pretty successful first season in East London, scoring seven goals and registering seven assists in the Premier League for West Ham last season, many will have been surprised to see Ward Prowse head out on loan this season. But with the 30 year old seemingly not part of Julen Lopetegui’s plans he joined Nottingham Forest on loan for the season.
The loan spell has not worked out for Ward Prowse. With Forest enjoying an unbelievable season thus far, Ward Prowse has featured just 8 times, registered 0 goal contributions and was even sent off against Chelsea after picking up two yellow cards.
It will certainly be interesting to see what the future holds for Ward Prowse. Will he end up back at West Ham amid their midfield struggles and be given a chance under Lopetegui ? Or following an unsuccessful loan spell will the 30 year old be sold in the January window and move on to pastures new ?
