West Ham’s reported interest in awful Premier League striker shows why the club will never progress.

When moving to the London Stadium, West Ham fans were promised world-class football in a world-class stadium. Although neither of these two things have been fully realised, they did come relatively close to the former when they managed three back-to-back seasons of European football.

However, the questionable Summer transfer window paired with the baffling decision to appoint Julen Lopetegui as manager may have undone this work, but there’s one reason the club have failed to progress: the board do not match the ambition of the fans.

This can be highlighted by some of the questionable players they’ve been linked with a move for this month, with none being worse than that of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The Englishman has been absolutely atrocious over the past three-and-a-half seasons, scoring just 16 league goals in that time, spending much of that time out injured. In his Everton career, he’s had just two seasons where he’s hit double digits.

Unfortunately, with just six months remaining on his deal, he’s the exact sort of signing I can see David Sullivan making. You’d hope the signings of Scamacca, Haller, and Fullkrug would’ve taught him a lesson, but it doesn’t look great if these reports are true.
