West Ham have finally parted ways with Julen Lopetegui after a disastrous 8 month spell in charge.

The former Spain boss took over from David Moyes in the summer and was significantly backed in the transfer window with a circa £100m spend on new players.

However from the outset it has never felt right, with the Head Coach looking a man out of his depth and ideas to get the team functioning, which has lead the club to sack him after 20 league matches played.

The West Ham Way Podcast duo Dave Walker and ExWHUEmployee have shared their thoughts on Lopetegui and how the club have handled the situation.

“It’s a shame it didn’t work out but it’s right to part company,” said Walker. “What isn’t right is the way it’s been handled by the club, shocking to be honest.

“This is a challenging job at West Ham so we need to be patient with Potter. I wish him luck -I think he’s gonna need it!”

Ex agreed that it’s the right decision from the club, and he does have sympathy for  Lopetegui despite his shocking record as boss.

“I think this was the right decision but of course it probably should have came immediately after the Manchester City game,” said the club insider. “Lopetegui tried hard and it was always going to be a tough role this season following on from Moyes and with a number of issues affecting his time here beyond just team selection.

“Unfortunately too many performances have been weak and I look forward to a fresh start!”
