West Ham are working on player recruitment following the arrival of new Head Coach Graham Potter.
Potter signed a 2.5 year deal having replaced Julen Lopetegui, which many will hope will draw a line under a disappointing spell for the club, as we now look to get things on track and look onwards & upwards.
Reporting on The West Ham Way Patreon, our club insider ExWHUEmployee has provided a comprehensive update on the state of play surrounding possible incoming players this transfer window.
“The club are currently in talks with a number of forward options,” stated Ex. “We have options both abroad and domestically that we are exploring.
“The first one has been reported by us on numerous occasions but just to confirm again, Evan Ferguson. The Brighton forward is available for a loan spell probably at the end of the window, if Welbeck comes back from his injury. There are a number of clubs interested in him but the obvious link with Graham Potter, the man who gave him his debut at The Seagulls.
“Another domestic player that is under consideration although probably not a realistic option is Marcus Rashford. He has again been told he can go on loan and Milan seem to be leading the chase. There is a whole host of European Giants looking the player including Juventus and Dortmund.
“Should none of these transfers work out it is one we could look at if Manchester United pay a large percentage of his wages, but for now we think this transfer is unlikely.
“Another former target we could revisit is Taiwo Awoniyi of Nottingham Forest. We have had previous interest in the player and another bonus is that he is considered home grown. Despite being a Nigerian international he was at Liverpool’s academy for six years and this qualifies him as home grown. He has very similar player traits to Antonio and has been kept out of the Forest side this season by the sensational form of Chris Wood. He seems a perfect fit for us.
“Looking at the foreign leagues a few French options have come up. Once more we are looking at Jonathan David. The Canadian international seems to have been an eternal target however is contract is up at the end of the season. The forward is still only 24 and has an almost 1 goal in 2 games record for Lille. Once more there is plenty of competition for the player and this could make the deal hard.
“Another player being looked at from the French league is Evann Guessand of Nice who has had a good scoring record this season and has a good physical presence. Randal Kolo Muani of PSG is another well sort after target. The French international could also be available for a loan and this is something Manchester United amongst others are looking to do.
“Further afield we could look at the Brazilian league again with Brazilian international Igor Jesus of Botafogo a target.
“In other positions the club have submitted offers for a midfielder thought to be Ezechiel Banzuzi. It is understood that Monaco lead the chase for this player however after West Ham negotiators were preoccupied with the manager situation. An ironic twist in this deal is that Monaco are apparently ready to submit a loan offer for Edson Alvarez.”
Ex further advised that new boss Potter will have a significant say on recruitment and will need his seal of approval. Our insider will keep fans up to date on the progression of any potential deals as they develop on Patreon.
