West Ham eye Arsenal defender to solve their defensive woes.
While much of the blame for West Ham’s abysmal defensive record has been placed on the now departed Julen Lopetegui, there’s no denying that individuals have also been at fault.
When he’s played, Areola has been absolutely woeful, Mavropanos and Todibo both have mistakes in them, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka needs to work on his positioning to be as good as we know he can be.
However, perhaps the most disappointing is Emerson. The Italian was unbelievable under David Moyes, but has regressed massively this season.
As a result, it’s been reported that the club are keen on signing a new left-back this January. Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney is believed to be subject to strong interest from both our Irons and Brentford, with the North London side willing to sell. Surprisingly though, the outcast has rejected both moves, supposedly preferring a return to Celtic.
Although it is certainly a position we could do with adding to, Emerson may be able to find his form once again under Graham Potter. On top of this, Tierney is not the sort of player we should be looking at – his injury record alone should be enough to keep us well away.
