West Ham United fans have been told to “keep an eye” on Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall as Graham Potter looks to make his first signing as manager, according to a report from Football Insider.
Chelsea are reportedly willing to let the 26-year-old leave just months after arriving from Leicester for £30m in July due to his lack of game time.
KDH has players like Cole Palmer, Joao Felix and Cristopher Nkunku ahead of him in his preferred number 10 position. He can also play a bit deeper in midfield, however, he also has Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia ahead of him in the pecking order.
Chelsea spent almost half a billion pounds on these players, so it’s nothing on Dewsbury-Hall’s quality as a player that he hasn’t managed many minutes in the Premier League this season.
This is the perfect opportunity for the Hammers to make the most of this and bring in a player that could really help turn it around in the middle of the park for Graham Potter in his new job.
The West Ham midfield has been starved of energy so far this season with Guido Rodriguez failing to get up to the pace of the Premier League, Edson Alvarez struggling to find his form from under Moyes and Soucek unlikely to fit into Potter’s possession-based football.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall thrived at Leicester in the Championship in a more advanced midfield position, he was able to get in and around the box, contributing to 27 goals in 49 matches. However, in his limited minutes at Chelsea he has taken up a deeper role where he has impressed in the Conference League,.
The Hammers are more in need of a midfielder than can play in a more reserved role, and maybe in a midfield two if Graham Potter is to switch to his preferred back 5 formation.
While KDH is capable of this, he seems to prefer a more advanced role. So, it would probably be a better option to sign someone that excels in that role.
