West Ham may be closing in on RB Leipzig striker Andre Silva to solve their injury crisis up front, according to a report from BILD.

Graham Potter arrived in East London reportedly eager to work with German International Niclas Füllkrug, however, he picked up a reoccurrence of his hamstring injury in Potters first match at Aston Villa in the FA Cup. This added to an already struggling Hammers striker department with Michail Antonio expected to be out for the rest of the season after his car crash.

West Ham have Danny Ings fit, however, like Lopetegui, Potter doesn’t seem to trust the Englishman from the start and prefers to use him as an impact substitute. So, it is key that the Hammers need to move for a striker this winter and that man could be Portugal International Andre Silva.

Silva’s stock has declined over the years with him once being one of the most coveted strikers in Europe. However, at just 27-years-old he has more than enough time to do that, and the Premier League could be the perfect place for that.

For RB Leipzig this season, Andre Silva has struggled for game time, only starting two matches in all competitions. However, in just 124 minutes this season in the Bundesliga, Silva has managed a goal and 2 assists which is more than Michail Antonio and the same as Ings and Fullkrug in less minutes than all three.

German newspaper BILD boldly claims that Silva is an option for the Hammers and there is a serious belief that the Portugal international is on the verge of a move to the London Stadium.

The move would likely cause a bit of a divide in the Hammers fanbase. There is no doubting his quality as a striker, he has scored 149 goals in his club career as well as 19 goals for Portugal. However, he hasn’t managed to break the ten goal mark since his 21/22 season with Leipzig which would worry fans., however that hasn’t been helped by injuries.

In the last two and a half years he has missed 65 matches with leg injuries. He had calf problems last season which has lasted over a year now, making him miss over 50 matches for RB Leipzig and Real Sociedad.

On the other hand, if he is able to get over his current calf problems Silva could be a solid risk-free option for Graham Potter. He is said to be available on loan, and with just a year and a half left on his contract, if the loan is successful he wouldn’t cost too much to m make permanent. While he might not be the exact one we need, a striker has to be signed this month and there has certainly been worse links than Andre Silva.
