Julen Lopetegui was denied a strange request just hours before his sacking.
The Julen Lopetegui era was short lived at West Ham. From day one it was obvious that he wasn’t the man for the job, despite him being an extremely likable individual from an outside perspective.
He was clearly someone who put everything on the line for his work, and this was clearly shown in his final days as head coach. He showed up and took training despite it being common knowledge that he was going to be sacked.
Unfortunately, he would have only known this via the media as the club treated him disgustingly and with absolutely no respect.
However, on the day of his sacking he made a baffling request, one that could have potentially have revealed some interesting truths.
Lopetegui is said to have almost begged to take the press conference ahead of the Aston Villa game, despite it being cancelled due to it being decided that he was going to be relieved of his duties.
Why exactly he wanted to take it so desperately is unknown. He may have simply wanted to show his dedication, or he may have wanted to give his side of the story. He would have surely known what every single question would’ve been about so I find it hard to believe he had any intention of speaking about the match. Undoubtedly, he has been upset with how he’s been treated, and it’s likely he wanted to air the truth – although there’s no reason he had to do this in the press conference.
