Respected journalist claims that Graham Potter does have some financial backing this month.

We are now over half way through January and West Ham do not seem any closer to making any signings.

However, there’s no reason to panic. The appointment of Graham Potter was always going to mean business would happen towards the end of the window rather than the start, and very few Premier League clubs have actually taken part in any significant deals yet.

To make things even more reassuring, David Ornstein has confirmed that “there are resources available for West Ham to strengthen.”

“They want to bring in a striker to solve their goalscoring problem with the absence of Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen and now Niclas Fullkrug through injury.”

“They’ve made an inquiry about Taiwo Awoniyi at Nottingham Forest – that was knocked back because they would want to replace him if they were to let him go. They like Duran at Aston Villa but he is going nowhere – he is there to stay.”

“So West Ham have a lot of business to do this month to get themselves well away from the relegation battle and to safety.”

Although I don’t agree that we’re in a relegation battle (we’re 10 points clear of the drop zone), it is absolutely vital we bring in a forward this month. Hopefully the board do provide Potter the funds to bring in someone respectable rather than signing a striker for the sake of it.
