West Ham’s bizarre and risky transfer strategy could backfire massively.
With Tim Steidten’s powers and influence being reduced ahead of the January transfer window, some fans grew concerned over what sort of business the club could be taking part in, particularly if it was to be David Sullivan in charge of signings.
Unfortunately, it seems like these concerns were not unfounded. According to reports, the Hammers will look to sign struggling players in the hopes that they can revitalise their career in a similar style to Jesse Lingard.
Obviously, if any player came in and had that level of impact he’d be considered a massive success, The issue is that the chances of this happening are very low. What is more likely, in my eyes, is that they will be another Kalvin Phillips – someone who becomes a liability.
With that being said, we’ve seen both sides of the coin in recent years. If everyone at the club agrees on a player that fits in this category then there’s a chance it could pay off.
