Lille and England midfielder Angel Gomes is set to choose a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur over a move to West Ham or a return to Manchester United this summer.
Since Graham Potter’s arrival, West Ham United have been heavily linked with a double swoop for Lille duo Jonathan David and Angel Gomes. But it seems like the latter has been dealt a blow with GIVEMESPORT sources reporting the 24-year-old would prefer a move to Spurs under Ange Postecoglu.
GMS sources have been informed that Tottenham are putting together a proposal for Gomes at a time when West Ham have been trying to beat them to his services, while Manchester United have stopped short of lodging an offer at this stage, allowing Postecoglu to steal a march.
The former Manchester United man would be a great midfielder in Graham Potter and would compliment the current Hammers midfielders nicely. The small nimble frame of Gomes with his passing, dribbling and creativity from deep would really compliment someone like Tomas Soucek in midfield who really lacks any of that.
However, it would make a lot of sense for Gomes to prefer a move to Tottenham as he is from the area. Despite coming through the Manchester United academy, he was born in Edmonton and started his life living in Hendon, which is an area full of Tottenham Hotspur fans.
If true, Graham Potter will be gutted about missing out on such a talented player and England International that would really add to his squad ahead of next season. However, finding out this early means the recruitment team can work on finding another star midfielder ahead of the 25/26 campaign.
The Hammers will now be hoping a move foe Jonathan David can happen, however, he is likely to have even more clubs around him than Gomes so it could be a difficult.
