West Ham battle for a well deserved point in the face of ghastly officiating at Villa Park.

As a football fan you learn to accept that you will see bad officiating, it’s simply part of the game. Unfortunately, the standard of referees in the Premier League, the best league in the world, simply is unacceptable.

Based on a whole performance, you’d struggle to find a worse example than what happened at Villa Park this weekend. Simply put the referee made multiple atrocious decisions which led to him completely losing control of the match.

Despite this, the Hammers managed to earn a surprising but well deserved point against Aston Villa.

Things looked ghastly in the first 15 minutes for the Irons, Villa took the lead through a well taken Jacob Ramsey goal and continued to give the hosts chance after chance. But seemingly out of nowhere things clicked for West Ham and they were arguably the better side for the rest of the 90.

In particular, the second half saw Graham Potter’s side dominate the ball, have more chances, and ultimately equalise as Emerson’s head met a beautiful Alvarez cross.

While the majority of players played rather well, a special mention has to be given to Lucas Paqueta. He was once again absolutely superb, worked himself into the ground to the point that he was attempting a bicycle kick while injured, and was easily the best player on the pitch.

It’s a performance that the players clearly enjoyed taking part in and one the fans enjoyed watching, It’s early days, but things are starting to look up again for West Ham United.
