West Ham’s surprise bid for a World Cup winning midfielder was swiftly rejected.

At this stage in the window it seems highly unlikely, but West Ham could do with at least three signings: a centre-back, a midfielder, and a striker. At a push, they could potentially sign two of those, but there’s a higher chance that it’s actually none in my opinion.

A striker is obviously the main priority right now, but the Hammers do have midfielders on their radar too.

According to various reports, West Ham actually submitted a bid worth £21 million for Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo De Paul, which was rejected.

Although he’d be an unbelievable signing, it screams of a phantom bid. The idea that Atletico would let a key player leave for so little is ridiculous. Either it’s an agent trying to generate interest or it’s someone from inside West Ham trying to give it the old fashioned “we tried”.
