Julen Lopetegui did everything right at West Ham, except when it came to football.
Julen Lopetegui will certainly go down as a West Ham manager. Unfortunately, unlike his predecessor, he didn’t leave behind a legacy. Instead he seemingly played a huge role is undoing everything the club had been building under David Moyes.
However, he actually did do a lot of good around the club. His commitment to the club was unbelievable, from working shortly after his father passed away, to being desperate to take training and press conferences despite knowing he was going to be sacked.
As a man, he was perfect for the Hammers, and this can also been shown through recent reports claiming he tried to buy into the traditions of the club consistently. One example of this is that he was the first manager to ever show up to West Ham’s charity arm’s annual dinner without being invited.
It’s hard to know exactly why things were so disappointing on the pitch, but he could’ve been a manager the fans really loved if things were a bit better.
