Aaron Kamara, a versatile midfielder who is capable of playing across the backline, has put pen to paper on his first professional deal with West Ham.
17 year old Kamara was a part of the West Ham U18s side who beat Manchester United on penalties to reach the Premier League Cup semi finals. After such a high with the U18s, signing his first professional contract with the Hammers rounds of a special week for 17 year old Kamara.
Speaking to the Club’s official website after the news of his contract was announced, Kamara said: “This week has been unreal. The quarter final was a very good game. I enjoyed it a lot and had faith we’d go through even though Manchester United were in really good form. Signing my first professional contract is the icing on the cake. It’s a dream come true for every footballer.”
The youngster caught the eye of West Ham’s scouts whilst at Southend United’s Academy. After a trial at the Club, Kamara joined West Ham’s U14 side. Building on his development at Chadwell Heath, the 17 year old signed his full time scholarship last summer.
Earlier in his career Kamara played as a midfielder. This season for the Hammers U18 side, the 17 year old’s versatility has been on display for all to see, having played in every defensive position as his preferred position of defensive midfield.
Academy manager Kenny Brown was full of praise for Kamara and is hopeful he can continue progressing: “What we like about him is that he does a great job wherever he plays, and he understands the different requirements of each position.” said Brown.
The Club’s academy manager went on to add: “There is a lot of development to come for him. He’s in a really good place right now, and next year will be a very important one. He’ll be a prominent figure within the U18s, and hopefully we’ll see him with the U21s as well.”
