Evan Ferguson, who joined the Club on loan in the January transfer window, was happy to get his first minutes in a West Ham shirt against Brentford at the weekend. The 20 year old striker believes the 45 minutes against Thomas Frank’s side will help him settle in to his new Club.

Despite Graham Potter’s side’s defeat to Brentford it was a promising debut in Claret & Blue from Ferguson. Coming on at half time, the Republic of Ireland international did well to hold the ball up against Brentford’s physical back line, he certainly gave the Hammers more threat going forward after a poor first half display.

The striker had a couple of efforts on goal. He also almost made an instant impact after creating a great chance for Mohammed Kudus. Driving into space, Ferguson cut the ball back to Kudus who blazed his effort over the bar from virtually inside the six yard box.

Discussing his West Ham debut after the game, Ferguson said: “For me personally, it was good to get back out there and make my debut for the Club, but I think as the game goes, we all know as a squad and as a unit that it needs to be better.”

Ferguson, who joined West Ham on loan from Brighton on deadline day, is happy to be reunited with his former manager Graham Potter and is hoping his football can do the talking during this “fresh start” for the 20 year old: “I think it’s good that I’m in a new place, a new environment and sort of having that fresh start.” said Ferguson.

The Republic of Ireland international went on to add: “I obviously know him (Graham Potter) from his time at Brighton, but he’s come in and has new ideas, so it’s been a positive start and I feel I’ve settled in well. It’s been all I could’ve asked for, and now it’s time to let my football do the talking.”

After showing glimpses of what he can do on his debut, West Ham fans will be hoping that Ferguson can finally be a striker signing that works out and goes to plan.

It’ll be hard for Hammers fans to give Ferguson time, given that he’s only at the Club on a straight loan and for a maximum of 13 or 14 games. That being said, if the 20 year old can add more firepower to West Ham’s forward line and score some goals to help the Hammers end the campaign in a better position, then supporters will hope the Club will pushes to sign Ferguson on a permanent basis.
