West Ham fan favourite says the club are unlikely to sign loanee permanently.
Tim Steidten made some questionable signings last Summer. He brought in some players who he really shouldn’t have, ones that were never going to work out at West Ham. However, one addition that has fans divided is Carlos Soler.
Some fans think he’s been brilliant and should be starting regularly, while others haven’t been impressed at all. Cult hero Martin Allen falls into the latter category, with him believing that the Hammers should avoid making the loan signing permanent.
“I can’t see him signing next season. No way, that can’t happen,” Allen told West Ham Zone.
“If you’re going to have a winning team, in and around that top eight that West Ham needs to be aiming for, I don’t believe he can do that.”
“I don’t think he is mobile enough, I just think his lack of mobility and athleticism lets him down. Players that can’t run but are good on the ball, won’t work in the Premier League, you’ve got to be able to get from box to box.”
“You’ve got to be quick because the mobility and athleticism at the top level is frightening and he doesn’t fit into that bracket for me.“
Although I don’t fully disagree, I also think it’s worth noting that someone like James Ward-Prowse is just as slow, if not slower than Soler, yet he’s spent the majority of his career in the Premier League. In fact, there’s been times where Soler’s showed excellent athleticism and gone on some great runs.
If he is to be signed permanently, he must play in midfield though as when he’s put on the wing his pace does then become a huge issue. With that all being said, unless he’s willing to drop his huge wage demands then I would probably avoid making the deal permanent.
