Alphonse Areola was immensely proud of his teammates after they secured a 1-0 win and 3 points against Arsenal at the weekend.

Going away to the Emirates is never an easy task, but having gone four games in the Premier League without a win, Graham Potter’s side were in need of a result. They certainly got one, as Jarrod Bowen’s 50th Premier League goal secured a second successive away win against Mikel Arteta’s side.

The defensive unit of Ollie Scarles, making his first Premier League start, Jean Clair Todibo, Aaron Cresswell, Max Kilman and Aaron Wan Bissaka worked tirelessly throughout the game to limit Arsenal’s opportunities. It was not just the defence, the collective effort ensured Areola had little to do throughout Saturday’s London derby, with the French shot stopper only called upon to make two saves.

Speaking to the Club’s media team post match, Areola said: “I’m so proud of the team, so proud of the efforts we’ve put in today. I mean, we’ve been working so hard these last couple of weeks and it’s just the result of our work.”

The France international went on to add: “I’m just proud, proud and happy (for the defenders), for the team, because we needed that. In France, we say we put everything on our shirt and we gave everything with our hearts. That’s what we did today.”

Coming away from the Emirates with three points is a fantastic result for Graham Potter and his West Ham side. Hammers fans were understandably on cloud nine and would have thoroughly enjoyed their weekends after a brilliant team performance.

West Ham can take great confidence going forward now after a win against a title challenging side. It is important that Graham Potter’s side take this confidence into Thursday night’s game at home to Leicester. The Hammers are yet to secure back to back wins in the league this season, and a home game against a side sitting 19th offers a good opportunity to pick up another three points, with the Hammers hoping to finish the season on a positive note.
