There have been rumours Manchester United could appoint Julen Lopetegui if Ruben Amorim is replaced.
Julen Lopetegui was sacked by West Ham in January after a very disappointing eight months in charge, however, he could somehow be making a swift return to the Premier League dugouts with arguably the biggest club in the world.
Manchester United sacked Erik Ten Hag in October after a 2-1 defeat to Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham, not many would have expected the Spaniard to be part of a shortlist five months later to replace Ruben Amorim.
However, according to reports in Europe Julen Lopetegui could seriously be a contender for the job if Amorim continues to disappoint.
The report isn’t actually as unserious as many would’ve thought when they first saw the link. Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are said to be huge fans of the former Spain and Real Madrid coach. He was reportedly on the shortlist to replace Ten Hag in the summer, however, the FA Cup win meant the Dutch coach was given a new contract.
After Lopetegui’s failed time at West Ham it would be a massive surprise to see him move to Old Trafford, and it’s likely any previous interest has completely disappeared. However, if Amorim was sacked which is very unlikely and it did happen, it has potential to be one of the worst managerial appointments in Premier League history. But it for sure could make fans of clubs in England laugh at the fall off of the once unstoppable Red Devils.
