West Ham’s lasting issues remain apparent in defeat at home to Newcastle.

This season is essentially over for West Ham. No threat of relegation and no hope of European football means that the rest of the campaign is for Graham Potter to assess, experiment, and improve.

While the previous two games have demonstrated what exactly the squad can do well, the defeat to Newcastle demonstrated some clear weaknesses.

The first-half was dull, lifeless, and uneventful. Neither team particularly stood out, and Newcastle shut down everything West Ham wanted to do.

For the most part, the second-half was more of the same, with Newcastle coming into the game a bit more. The Geordies capitalised on this as Guimaraes finished off a brilliant Harvey Barnes assist.

Unfortunately, it’s hard to motivate a team with nothing to play for but it’s vital they impress Potter if they are to stay in his plans.
