Michail Antonio was presented to West Ham fans before their clash with Newcastle on Monday night.
A bad night for West Ham, which ended in a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle, was made slightly better as Michail Antonio was welcomed back to the London Stadium for the first time since his horrific car accident.
Back in December, when Antonio crashed his car, fans were unsure how bad it was and what the consequences would be. Miraculously, the 35-year-old escaped with a broken leg and could be in line to make a return to the pitch before the end of the season.
Michail Antonio has spent the last three months recovering in hospital, in Dubai, and now back in London where he has been in and around the training ground since.
The Jamaica International was reportedly supposed to be at the Leicester game last weekend, however, he wasn’t able to make it in the end. West Ham fan group Ironworks Alliance had announced their plans to unfurl a fan-funded banner in support of Antonio during his presentation against Leicester.
Ironworks Alliance managed to raise the funds for the banner, which was finally unveiled as Antonio greeted the crowd before kick-off on Monday night. Antonio looked emotional as he took in both the banner and the round of applause from all four corners of the ground.
It will be a brilliant occasion for Michail, his family, the club, and the whole of the Premier league if he is one day able to get his boots on again and play for West Ham at the London Stadium once again.
