West Ham have had a poor season so far, and their awful home form hasn’t helped that at all.
The Hammers have the fourth-worst home record in the League this season, with only Southampton, Ipswich, Leicester, and Wolves, the bottom four of the PL table, performing worse than the Cockneys in what is meant to be home.
The key phrase being ‘meant to be,’ if you asked all of our fans where is home, they wouldn’t say the London Stadium, they would say it still isn’t our real home, and it doesn’t feel close to being like it years on from moving away from Upton Park. Yes, it’s a tired debate; it’s been gone for almost a decade. We need to move on, but it just isn’t getting any better at the London Stadium.
West Ham as a club has been coming off the back of one of its most successful and enjoyable moments in recent history with the Conference League win, Europa League runs, and pushing at the top end of the table. The stadium had some stand-out moments in that period, like the semi-final atmosphere against Frankfurt and the constant noise and celebrations of the round of 16 tie against Sevilla.
However, you can still count on two hands, maybe even one hand the number of brilliant atmospheres there has been at the London Stadium since we moved there in August 2016. Not only is almost every game quiet after singing bubbles, but this season, the atmosphere has been dire at times. .
Yes. It’s hard for fans, including me, to get up for matches that have been boring us senseless, mainly under Lopetegui. But it must also be hard for the players to put in that little extra bit of effort that some players and teams get from their supporters’ noise and support in the stadium.
I think the potential of unlocking that atmosphere in the stadium this season is almost impossible because we have nothing to play for, however, with Potter, there seems to be a lot of excitement, a decent end to the season, a positive transfer window and pre-season are key for a positive and happy mindset at the London Stadium to start the 25/26 campaign off with a bang.
