West Ham held to a draw in their reunion with former manager David Moyes.
Over the years, West Ham have been involved in some classic games at Goodison Park: the famous 3-2 comeback and Rooney’s hat-trick are just a couple of examples. Unfortunately, their final trip to Everton’s iconic ground wasn’t one of those.
Both the Hammers and the Toffees have had abysmal seasons until a recent change of manager, with Everton’s notably being David Moyes.
A rather uneventful first-half saw neither side really carve out too many good opportunities. The hosts were bizarrely awarded a penalty just before the break, but VAR thankfully overturned the decision.
In the 67th minute, Tomas Soucek finished of a lovely move with a great curling finish to give his side the advantage.
West Ham looked like they were going to secure a narrow victory, but a late O’Brien header from a corner meant the points were shared.
While not the most eventful match, it isn’t the worst point considering the form Everton have been in since Moyes rejoined.
Some are understandably not too keen on the style of football being played right now, but after their atrocious defensive record under Lopetegui it’s understandable why Potter is playing so defensively. With that being said, there’s certainly some promising signs and, with the season essentially being over in terms of what can be achieved by our Irons, it’s just about letting the gaffer assess what needs to be done in the Summer.
