West Ham manager Graham Potter needs to sell players this summer in order to fund a rebuild in the transfer window.

The former Chelsea and Brighton coach is planning a harsh clear out of a lot of first-team players during the off season, but the names listed probably won’t shock you.

The first player set to be put on the chopping block is Konstantinos Mavropanos. Despite the Greek International has has made 60 appearances since arriving from Stuttgart for £20m in 2023, he was a Tim Steidten signing that wasn’t really favoured by Moyes, and he isn’t part of Graham Potter’s plans.

Julen Lopetegui was a huge fan of Mavropanos, but that probably says it all really. He hasn’t been good enough for the Hammers and a return to the Bundesliga would be a smart option for the former Arsenal man.

Sticking in defence, Emerson Palmieri could also be on is way out of East London. The Italian International made a £13m switch from Chelsea in the summer of 2023 where he almost immediately became first choice under David Moyes and was a crucial part of the Conference League win.

However, he has recently lost his consistent starting XI place to the promising Ollie Scarles. Emerson started the recent match away at Everton, however, he it showed he isn’t really suited to the wing-back position, so it’s likely he will be moved on to make way for a younger and better suited player.

After just a year at the club, both Niclas Fullkrug and Guido Rodriguez could also be set for the exit. Out of the two, Guido is a lot more likely to leave. The Argentina International was signed on a free transfer after leaving Real Betis in the summer. He has really failed to get up to the speed and physicality of the Premier League and it looks like he will return to Andalucía less than a year after leaving. The Hammers would like to get a small fee for the 30-year-old, but it wouldn’t be the end of the world if he left on a free.

However, that isn’t the case for Niclas Fullkrug. The big German was signed for £27m last summer and has been nothing short of a disastrous signing. The talent is there, he has three goal contributions in just 368 minutes of Premier League football this season. But that’s the problem, he can’t get on the pitch, he is 32-years-old and isn’t worth anywhere the money paid for him in the summer. So, it would make sense to keep him and hope he can find some consistent fitness.

However, Graham Potter wants to create a more young and hungry team and getting rid of a 32-year-old with awful injury problems would go a long way to starting that. Keeping to that theme, it’s likely fellow older players like Lukasz Fabianski, Danny Ings and Michail Antonio are likely to leave on the expiry of their contracts. Aaron Cresswell and Vladimir Coufal are also out of contract but they could still earn new deals before the seasons ends.

Kyle Macaulay and Potter have a difficult job on their hands this summer, they will be working on a tight budget with very minimal sales to add to it. If we can get Jonathan David and Angel Gomes in on free transfers from Lille it would go a very long way to starting a successful rebuild.
