West Ham Women are back in WSL action on Sunday. The Hammers welcome Tottenham to the Chigwell Construction Stadium in a much anticipated London derby. Manager Rehanne Skinner is confident her side are ready for the challenge.
In her recent press conference, Skinner emphasised how there is very much a feel good factor around the club after the 1-1 draw with Manchester City last time out. In the eyes of the West Ham boss, the positive performances in recent weeks have left her squad motivated to build on this recent momentum. The Hammers will also hope to maintain their good record of picking up results at home.
“We’ve come off of the last four games feeling like we’ve really given everything a good go, and a good account of ourselves. I think that naturally rolls over into being really keen to play the next game and wanting to get on the pitch.” said Skinner.
Despite opponents Spurs being in poor form, Skinner made clear that her and her players are not underestimating their opponents by any stretch. She stressed the unpredictable nature of derby games and how the Hammers will have to stay focused in order to pick up a result in front of their home fans. “Everyone wants to win these games and they’re going to want to get points. You expect the unexpected, really. So regardless of what state they’re (Tottenham) in at the moment, we fully expect a difficult game.”
Skinner went on to add: “We want to make sure that we do our bit to get the points at home in front of our fans.”
With West Ham having secured the vast majority of their points at home this season, Rehanne Skinner’s side will be confident going into Sunday’s meeting with Spurs. Despite their opponents poor form, the Hammers must stay focused and avoid any complacency as the Hammers boss was right to point out the unpredictability of derby games.
A win on Sunday and another positive performance would allow the Hammers to build further momentum and keep confidence within the squad high as they look to have a strong end to the season.
