Frustrating update as West Ham look unlikely to sign England international.

While their lack of a striker and poor defensive record have been massive issues, West Ham’s biggest problem is arguably their midfield. The lack of pace and ability to transition affect both of the two previously mentioned issues.

The Hammers were keen to amend this issue by signing Lille’s Angel Gomes. The England international is available on a free, meaning the Irons were willing to pump millions into his signing bonus, it’s been claimed.

Unfortunately, it seems the Irons have backed away from a potential deal as his agents are said to be using the lucrative offer to try and get more money from other clubs.

The signings always seemed unlikely, but you can’t help but feel like the young man would be the perfect addition to Graham Potter’s squad. Talks may restart in the future, but it’s clearly an uphill battle for the recruitment team, yet it’s one definitely worth fighting,
