West Ham have held discussions over a possible summer move for Sunderland midfielder Chris Rigg, its been reported by ExWHUEmployee.

As has been disclosed previously by our club insider, the club are eying the Championship market as well as others this summer, with a positive track record in obtaining top talent from the English second tier, with the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio and Aaron Cresswell being successes in east London.

In an update from Ex posted on The West Ham Way Patreon, the insider has now provided further information on the current state of play, with Rigg seen as a key target and one that is looking the most likely at present.

“Players from Sunderland and Burnley are very much on the radar,” stated Ex. “We have been tracking a range of Sunderland players for most of 2025 and these include: Jobe Bellingham, Dan Neil, Romain Mundale, Chris Rigg and Eliezer Mayenda.

“Chris Rigg has emerged as the most likely signing from that bunch with the player’s agent already having had early discussions with the club. A transfer fee of around £20m is being discussed but other clubs are also interested in the 17 year old midfielder including London rivals Tottenham.”

The club are also keeping close tabs on a number of Burnley players, as was reported previously, with CJ Egan-Riley emerging as a key target.

“The other club where we like a number of players is Burnley, again those players include: Bashir Humphreys, Maxime Estève, CJ Egan-Riley and goalkeeper James Trafford,” added Ex.

“Out of this bunch of players at the moment, it seems that CJ Egan-Riley is the top target. The England under 21 player is versatile and can operate at right back, centre back and as a defensive midfielder. He has been part of a very impressive Burnley back line this year.”

Following on from the article earlier today regarding West Ham resurrecting talks for Ezechiel Banzuzi; Ex has provided a further update on the situation.

“As we have been covering for a while on the podcast Ezechiel Banzuzi the Dutch under 21 powerhouse midfield international remains a firm target with Dortmund also firmly in the mix. It is thought that the German club are already in advanced talks.”
