West Ham Women’s team earned the bragging rights on Sunday after their 2-0 London Derby win over Tottenham at home.
The win saw Rehanne Skinner’s side secure their third clean sheet in the league this season as well as set a Club record for most wins at home in a WSL campaign with five.
Verena Hanshaw opened the scoring for West Ham 16 minutes in when her low driven shot deflected off Josefine Rybrink and wrong footed the keeper. The Hammers create chances and had a number of opportunities to extend their lead, whilst opponents Spurs went close to equalising, hitting the woodwork in the first and second half.
Despite late pressure from Spurs, West Ham held firm and sealed the three points in added time when Viviane Asseyi’s free kick curled its way into the far corner. Those three points move Rehanne Skinner’s side above their London rivals Tottenham in the WSL table and helps continue their good form at home.
Giving her thoughts on the game post match, manager Rehanne Skinner said: “I thought we were fantastic, to be honest, in and out of possession and scored some great goals today. A clean sheet in a London derby is fantastic for the fans.”
West Ham’s win over London rivals Tottenham Hotspur is certainly one that will have been thoroughly enjoyed by all Hammers fans. The win also highlights the momentum behind Rehanne Skinner’s squad at a crucial point in the campaign. With spirits high amongst the Hammers squad, and their good form at home continuing, they will be hoping a few more positive results from their remaining games can see them finish higher than their current position of eighth.
