West Ham are interested in signing Udinese defender Oumar Solet, according to TEAMtalk.

Graham Potter wants to add to his defensive personnel this summer and is looking to purchase a third central defender to play alongside Jean-Clair Todibo and Max Kilman.

There have been many names banded about so far including Burnley’s Maxime Esteve and Bashir Humphreys as well as AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori, however, as things stand moves for all three of those look very unlikely.

The latest name put into the mix is Udinese’s Oumar Solet. The 25-year-old has been a long-term target for the Hammers and was linked heavily to a move to East London under David Moyes when he was at RB Salzburg.

Solet is a defender known for his quality on the ball. He is extremely confident under pressure and is a player who is always looking for the option for short passes or dribbles.

As well as his on the ball qualities, the Frenchman is also a very decent defender. Like he is on the ball, the former Salzburg defender is calm when defending, he isn’t rash and never seems to panic. This is probably helped out by his rapid acceleration and speed that can dig him out of any problems he has.

Solet would be a very decent addition to the side in the back three, and it would mean Max Kilman could switch to his preferred position on the left-side as he’s been playing in the middle due to Aaron Creswell’s resurgence.

The former Lyon defender was available and was linked to West Ham on a free transfer in January. His contract at RB Salzburg was terminated just after the new year for unknown reasons, Udinese acted the fastest and snapped him up.

Now, after impressing in Serie A he has been linked with a move to West Ham United, Manchester United and Roma. If the Hammers can steal a march on those two clubs and get the Frenchman signed up, he could be a very smart signing for the club.
