West Ham are set to sign goalkeeper Lanre Awesu under his first pro-contract, its been reported by ExWHUEmployee.
The highly rated 17 year old has impressed at the club, having initially signing under a Scholarship ahead of the 2024/25 season after two years with the Academy of Football.
Described as a giant between the sticks, Awesu is a player the club have very high hopes for, which is now demonstrated by his first professional deal as he signs for West Ham, which comes into effect on 31st March.
Awesu helped the U18s reach the Premier League Cup final for the first time, saving a penalty in their quarter-final tie against Manchetser United in the penalty shootout and starting in the 3-1 semi-final victory over Derby County.
During his first year as a scholar, Awesu also made his Young Lions debut for England U17s, keeping a clean sheet in a 5-0 victory over Mexico in September 2024.
Reporting exclusively on Monday’s Podcast and then in a written article on Tuesday on The West Ham Way Patreon, club insider ExWHUEmployee shared the positive news, with a strong conveyor belt of goalkeeper talent emerging in east London.
