Portsmouth boss hopeful that they can keep hold of West Ham youngster Freddie Potts.

After a rough start to the season, it looks like Portsmouth will just escape relegation from the Championship.

At the centre of their fight for survival has been on-loan midfielder Freddie Potts. The Hammer enjoyed an incredible season at Wycombe the year before, and he’s made the step up to the second tier look easy.

His brilliant performances this season have earned him a new contract with the East London side, all but killing Pompey’s hopes of signing him permanently. However, manager John Mousinho is optimistic that he could return for another season on loan.

“It’s good news for Freddie but I think it’s irrelevant [to Pompey]. You always perhaps hold on to some hope that West Ham haven’t seen any footage of this year, and let him go at the back end of the year for a nominal fee.”

“We always thought that it would be the case though, they’ve made sure that they’ve kept track of the player and are on top of everything. They see that.”

When asked about whether they are in prime position to loan him once again, Mousinho said: “I think so”, clearly showing intent.

After two loans, you’d like to imagine that Potts will at least be ready to fight for a place on the bench at 21-years-old. This coming preseason will be massive for his future, but if he is loaned again it should really be to a top-end Championship club.
