Manchester City may reignite their interest in Lucas Paqueta if he is found innocent over betting charges.
Pep Guardiola has reportedly told Manchester City bosses he would like to make a move for Lucas Paqueta if he is cleared of betting charges. The Citizens wanted to sign the Brazillian in 2023, and a £85m move was reportedly close before the FA’s betting allegations came to light.
Over a year on, Paqueta is finally undergoing. hearing over his alleged spot-fixing in the Premier League. With the hearing expected to be conducted this month, Paqueta’s dream move could be back on.
The Citizen’s need to sign a player in Paqueta’s position has increased in recent days as club legend and arguably the best midfielder in Premier League history Kevin De Bruyne has decided to leave the club on a free transfer.
However, it’s now very unlikely that if City are actually interested they will match the £85m bid they made previously. Paqueta hs gotten older and his form has really dropped since the allegations came out. so he would likely be available for a lot less.
Reports suggest that even if he wins the case the Brazilian would like a new challenge this summer. Everyone thought that would be a move to Brazil with his former side Flamengo said to be following his situation. However, if he can get a move to Pep Guardiola’s Man City after the rough couple of years he’s had, there isn’t many hammers fans that would begrudge him.
