West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen was frustrated after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth at London Stadium.
“It’s really frustrating,” Bowen admitted. “It’s a point, but it feels like a loss, I think, just because in the first half we go in 1-0 down and then we’ve come out in the second half, got the two goals, and gone 2-1 up.
“We were pushing again then to either get another goal or just see the lead out, but we didn’t do that. So, yeah, it’s really frustrating that in the end we drew the game.”
The Hammers were struggling in attack until Potter made the change and brought on Niclas Fullkrug ten minutes after half time. The big German gave the team an outlet we didn’t have with Jarrod Bowen up front. Carlos Soler also came on at the same time and offered something completely different to Edson Alvarez in midfield.
Bowen said: “I think everyone all season has played their part The manager always says you can only pick eleven and people are going to be disappointed every week, but I think the important thing about the group is we’ve got a really hard-working group, people that want to do well.
“And you see that when people come off the bench, there’s no disappointment. It’s just trying to help the team as much as they can. And that’s what’s needed to be a successful team.”
Fullkrug levelled up the scoring seven minutes after coming on as his excellent header past Kepa from a James Ward-Prowse’s corner cancelled out Evanilson’s opener.
The German striker coming on meant Mo Kudus moved out to the left-wing, and out on that side the Ghanaian made a huge impact. He found his way past James Hill with an excellent dribble and dug out an excellent cross to Jarrod Bowen on his weak foot.
Our captain did what he does best and found the back of the net with another absolutely excellent header. However, we didn’t manage to hold on a earn all three points as Evanilson scored his second of the game eleven minutes from time. The Hammers conceded two avoidable goals in a game we really should have won, so Jarrod Bowen’s frustrations are completely understandable.
