West Ham are looking to strengthen our defence by potentially investing in a new goalkeeper, its been reported by ExWHUEmployee.
Following what has been a difficult campaign for the club both on and off the pitch this season, it is widely anticipated that there will be a significant level of personnel change in east London during the next transfer window.
Graham Potter and Kyle Macaulay are identifying players they wish the club to target, with David Sullivan set to lead the negotiation side, it has been confirmed by Ex on The West Ham Way Podcast.
One area of attention is understood to be the goalkeeper department, with Potter eying options for a new number keeper to challenge for the number one jersey.
Although the club do have Alphonse Areola, Lucasz Fabianski and Wes Foderingham on the books, which at this stage may be retained longer, it is felt a new senior goalkeeper is likely to be needed to upgrade on the options currently available.
There is also the emergence of the clubs Academy goalkeepers, with the likes of Fin Herrick, Mason Terry and Lanre Awesu all impressing for the club as they continue their respective developments.
Despite this, West Ham are exploring options in this department, with Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford understood to be a player of serious interest.
“The club are looking at options as to whether we can upgrade on our goalkeeper department, with a potential push to invest,” stated Ex.
“James Trafford of Burnley is a player that the club very much admire, however his availability depends on whether Burnley achieve promotion from the Championship this season.
“Burnley’s outstanding defensive record this season has certainly caught the attention, and it could well be that we see a serious push for Trafford once the season concludes.”
